The headlands and cliffs of the Cape Breton Highland tower over the rich, natural heritage that is all around. Home to the famous Cabot Trail, this land is blessed with spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife and a human history that stretches back to the last Ice Age. The park offers many accessible treasures and experiences remarkable in their diversity, beauty, and wonder.

The cool, maritime climate and rugged topography provide conditions which permit a unique co-existence of Acadian, Boreal and Taiga landscapes, vegetation and wildlife. Nowhere else in Canada is found this particular mix of northern and southern terrestrial and marine species. The park is also unique because it protects several species that are nationally or provincially at risk.
